1998 Annual Report
"40 Years.......and Growing Strong"

Message from the Mayor
1998 was another year of tremendous growth in Grande Prairie. This City has solidified its position as the regional service centre and hub for all of the North - for trade, transportation, health, emergency services, education, and culture. Grande Prairie is a model northern City that benefits from our diversified economy and energetic citizens.
In 1998 the City of Grande Prairie recorded over $92 million in construction activity; a feat only surpassed in the year 1979. This level of activity compares to Alberta Cities twice our size.
Council continued to build our financial foundation by reducing City debt and finished the year with a surplus in our operational budget. By providing, supporting, and facilitating municipal services that meet community needs, and enhancing the quality of life for all citizens, we will continue to make Grande Prairie "the Greatest Place to Be."
I am confident that the City has positioned itself with the foundation that will support and attract many opportunities for future growth and prosperity.
Please read our report, and join our Council and staff in celebrating a truly remarkable year for the City of Grande Prairie and our Region.
