Q: Who can vote?

You can vote in the General Election if you:

  • are at least 18 years old;
  • are a Canadian citizen;
  • have resided in Alberta for the past six months (April 15, 2007);
  • live in the City of Grande Prairie on Election Day; and
  • have not already voted in this election.

Q: How often is an election held?

Municipal Elections are held every three (3) years on the 3rd Monday in October.

Q: What if only the exact number of people run for the positions available?

In that case, at the close of nominations, the Returning Officer would declare the nominated persons to be elected and an election for that office would not be held.

Q: What is an Advance Vote?

An Advance Vote is available on special dates prior to the election day to provide a voting opportunity for eligible voters who will be away on election day.

Q: How do I know which area the Alderman Represent?

The City of Grande Prairie runs an “at-large” election and every Alderman represents the City as a whole.  There are no wards or constituencies for the offices of Mayor, Alderman or Public School Trustee.

Q: Do we have a Voter's List?

There is no Voter’s List for our Municipal Election.  You will be required to complete a Voting Register at the Voting Station in the Voting Subdivision in which you live on Election Day.
