Fire Department Administration is pleased to announce the appointment of two new Deputy Fire Chiefs at the Grande Prairie Fire Department:

Effective July 3, 2006, Mr. Harvey Pearson will take on the position of Deputy Fire Chief (Operational Readiness & Training)



Harvey started his career with the Grande Prairie Fire Department in June 1974 as a Firefighter. Harvey spent a year as a Training Officer in 1991-92. In July 2000 Harvey was promoted to Platoon Captain. Harvey was a founding member of Local 2770 of the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) and has been Chairman of the Department's Service & Maintenance Committee for over six years. Harvey has been the recipient of the Alberta Government Long Service Medal and of the Government of Canada Exemplary Medal and Exemplary Bar for his many years of fire service.

Harvey has shown leadership not only at the workplace but also through his ongoing community involvement with organizations such as Minor Hockey, Minor Soccer, Junior Curling, Nitehawk Ski Hill and the local Swim Club. In 2005 Harvey volunteered to travel with members of the Rotary Club to deliver fire trucks to Mazatland, Mexico. Harvey was instrumental in providing training to the Mazatland Fire Department in the safe use and operation of their new equipment.



 

Effective July 31, 2006, Ms. Janine Blackburn will take on the position of Deputy Fire Chief (Fire Prevention & Dispatch)


Janine started her career with the Grande Prairie Fire Department in December 1996 as an Emergency Services Dispatcher. Prior to joining the City, Janine had eight years experience as a Telecommunications Operator with the RCMP. In April 2001 Janine was promoted to Emergency Services Dispatch Supervisor. Janine has been the Chair of the Department's Continuous Quality Improvement Committee for a number of years. Janine was instrumental in the recent establishment of the back-up 9-1-1 Centre at City Hall. Janine brings several years of management and supervisory experience and a good knowledge of departmental operations to her new position. Janine recently completed the Essential Skills for Supervisors Certificate Program through Northern Lakes College.

Janine's community involvement includes being President of the Grande Prairie Synquatics Club, and volunteering for the recent World Women's Curling Championship.
