MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY
Canadian Firefighters have supported the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Canada since 1954. They have raised over 40 million dollars to support those suffering from neuromuscular disorders and to help find a cure for Muscular Dystrophy. Fire Prevention Officer Mark Whelpton represents the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Canada locally and regionally. He is the Alberta Fire Fighter Advisor - North / West Alberta Region. Mark also represented the Canadian International Association of Firefighters and our department on the U.S. Jerry Lewis Telethon. He has coordinated many of the fundraising events that the Grande Prairie Fire Department has held. Here is a list of some of the events that we have done:

What is MD? Muscular Dystrophy is the name of a group of muscle disorders that are characterized by progressive weakness and wasting of the voluntary muscles that control body movement. As muscle tissue weakens and wastes away, it is replaced by fatty and connective tissue.
