THERMAL IMAGING CAMERA

Our department has three Scott thermal imaging cameras that are primarily for search and rescue. Firefighters can take the camera into a structure fire and see through the smoke. This camera builds an image on a screen based on temperatures it "sees". It is self adjusting and very sensitive. A person's position can be immediately identified even in complete darkness. Notice that the engine compartment is warm (white) compared to the rest of the truck.
This camera is also very useful in other applications. It can be used in overhaul when firefighters are opening walls and ceilings in search of fire extension. This deliberate damage is important, and can be reduced by using the camera to check for those 'hot spots'. It can also be used in some hazardous materials applications like detecting gas leaks and determining fluid levels in tanks.
Our T.I.C. committee did a lot a research and was instrumental in making the idea become reality. Don, Preben, and Steve made up the committee.
