The GIS Department is a dynamic and unique team of individuals that provided GIS and Mapping services to:

  • City of Grande Prairie Departments
  • Aquatera Utility Corporation
  • Citizens of Grande Prairie and Area
  • Local and National Land Developers
  • Online GIS User Community (www.muniportal.ca)
  • ... and so on.

The City of Grande Prairie GIS Department is the full developer of the City's GIS viewer.  All applications of the GIS viewer are developed and maintained by a group of GIS Analyst/Developers and GIS Drafting Technicians.

 

The City has used Autodesk Mapguide since it's initial release in 1997, and continues to use this product with the current release today.

Department Overview

The GIS Department is responsible for:

  • Development, evaluation and recommendation of standards and procedures for GIS applications.
  • Coordination of user GIS requests and ensuring that all users are aware of GIS data availability and existing future GIS applications.
  • GIS data capture procedures.
  • GIS support to the organization.
  • Ad-hoc GIS data manipulation.
  • GIS data analysis.
  • GIS Presentation tasks.
  • Documentation of GIS procedures and data sets.
  • Providing GIS/CAD technical assistance to the corporation.
  • Maintenance of Engineering records.
  • Production of GIS/CAD related maps.
  • Providing information and assistance to other City departments, the public, consultants and contractors.

The GIS Department presently consists of one GIS Manager, three GIS Technicians, one Drafting Technician, and one shared half time Support Technician.

Our staff is proficient with various desktop GIS, CAD and software programs including Autocad Map, Autodesk World, Autodesk Mapguide, MS Office Professional and related software, Internet Explorer, MS Exchange and other applications.
