Health, Wellness & Safety Program
The City of Grande Prairie recognizes the commitment and responsibility of management and each employee in the application of health, wellness and safety practices at work. Employees at all levels are accountable for their health, wellness and safety performance and ensuring a safe worksite.
We participate in the Partnerships in Injury Reduction (PIR) through the Alberta Municipal Health and Safety Association (AMHSA). Successful completion of an annual Health and Safety Audit enables us to maintain our Certificate of Recognition (CoR).
We operate under the direction of our Corporate Health and Safety Advisory Team and work group/departmental Employee Health and Safety Teams. Annual business planning, co-ordination of a variety of training opportunities, guidance for staff in implementation of health and safety requirements, and recognition for the outstanding efforts and achievements of employees in maintaining safe work environments are our priorities.
Health and Safety Teams meet on a regular basis to share information, new ideas and ways to support the efforts of all staff in the improvement of our performance in health, wellness and safety.
Our Health and Safety Program is composed of the following elements:
- Organizational Commitment to Health & Safety
- Hazard Identification
- Hazard Control and Safe Work Procedures
- Formal Inspections
- Worker Orientation and Training
- Emergency Response Planning
- Incident Reporting and Investigation
- Program Administration
