Expanding or adding a new driveway?

Frequently asked questions

  1. Why do I need approval to modify my driveway or add new driveways?
  2. Do I need any permits to add or widen a driveway on my property?

Q: Why do I need approval to modify my driveway or add new driveways?

Widening or increasing the paved area on your lot can cause drainage problems to neighbouring properties. Adding unapproved accesses off lanes or roads can cause damage to city curbs and boulevards, as well as risks to pedestrians and drivers, which you may be liable for.

Q: Do I need any permits to add or widen a driveway on my property?

YES. A development permit is not needed, however a Crossing Permit is required. All accesses and curb crossings require the approval of the City of Grande Prairie’s Development Engineer and/or Transportation Services Department.

Crossing permit forms can be found at muniportal.ca
