Municipal Development Plan (MDP)
- is a statutory plan
- primary intent is to provide a broad framework for the land use, growth and development of the City over the next 20 to 25 years
- provides the policy basis for Area Structure Plans (ASP's), Outline Plans (OP's), Area Redevelopment Plans (ARP's) and the Land Use Bylaw (LUB)

Area Structure Plans (ASP)
- is a statutory plan whose primary intent is to demonstrate how future development in new areas will link to the City's existing developed area
- guides the preparation of more detailed Outline Plans (OP's)

Area Redevelopments Plans (ARP)
- is a statutory plan formulated to provide guidelines for the growth, development and redevelopment of existing neighbourhoods
- contains policies pertaining retention of neighborhood character, design guidelines and streetscape enhancement

Outline Plans (OP)
- is a nonstatutory plan required by the City subsequent to the adoption of an ASP which addresses land use and servicing issues in greater detail than in the ASP
- the preparation of the OP is the responsibility of the land owners and/or developer of the land in question

Land Use Bylaw (LUB)
- the primary intent of this bylaw is to regulate the use and development of all land and buildings within the boundaries of the City
