Now operating, Phase 1 of St. Joseph Catholic High School hosts 700 students, with room for an eventual 1260 students. St. Joe's (as it's commonly referred to) is the first phase of the Community Knowledge Campus.
St. Joseph Catholic High School is a functional, dynamic building of natural light and free-flowing space, with wings designed for maximum flexibility. Building on its 70-year tradition in Grande Prairie, the new high school has been designed to remain true to its roots, combining vigorous Catholic values with academics, technology, fine arts, and sports programming.
Keeping students connected – to their peers, their teachers, the community and their spirituality – is central to St. Joseph Catholic High School. A large chapel overlooks the central gathering area and announces its presence with multi-coloured antique stained glass windows, donated from a Quebec church being dismantled.
The floor plan centralizes common functions around a gathering space, with the library, administrative functions and food service all near the heart of the facility. The design also makes maximum use of shared facilities to provide learning opportunities and experiences for all students and develop a learning culture that will be shared between students and the adult community.
