Positive Ticketing

The Positive Ticket Initiative is a joint project between the City of Grande Prairie and the RCMP to recognize youth and their positive contribution to our community.  This program is intended to help youth in the community build attributes of good citizenship by rewarding their positive acts toward the community, as well as encouraging positive interaction between youth and the RCMP/Enforcement Services.

Launched in July 2005, the first year of the Positive Ticket Initiative was a great success.  Approximately 800 Positive Tickets were handed out by local law enforcement personnel, and feedback from RCMP members indicated that communication had increased between themselves and the youth.

The first Positive Ticket of 2007 was handed out on Tuesday, April 3rd, 2007 at the RCMP Detachment. We are please to announce that Mayor Wayne Ayling and Superintendent Arlen Miller handed out the first ticket to thirteen year old Travis Chabot. After one of the large snow falls in March, Travis brought a snow shovel from home and stayed after school to help clear the teachers' parking lot and assist vehicles stuck in the snow. Travis is a great role model for other teens in our community and is known for his generosity and interest in helping others.

With the generous support of a number of local businesses, this year’s Positive Ticket takes the form of a little package of goodies ranging from candy and key chains, to free food and activities. The package also contains an entry form for rewards including gift certificates from various businesses and 4 $100.00 cash rewards.

For questions or comments, or if you would like to recognize a youth for positive action within our community by recommending them as a Positive Ticket recipient, please  Community Action on Crime Prevention at (780) 882-7813 or crimeprevention@cityofgp.com.

We thank all of our sponsors for their generous support!  Without their help, this program would not be possible.
