Volunteering With CACP

Community Action on Crime Prevention is always welcoming new volunteers to help our cause. There are many committees available to become involved with, each of which focuses on a certain aspect of crime prevention. Following is a list of the committees, each with a brief description and/or its Mission Statement (where applicable):

Ad Hoc Committee

The Ad Hoc Committee deals with whatever issue is currently considered to be prominent within the city, which may not be addressed by other committees. At this point in time, they are focused on shoplifting prevention and enforcement laws.

Building Families Committee

Mission: “To build and support stronger and healthier families in Grande Prairie and area through community awareness, education, coordination and expansion of services.”

Building Neighbourhood Connections Committee

Responsible for such initiatives as the “Say Hi” campaign, this committee is dedicated to improving the relations between homeowners, business owners, and any other groups who interact on a day-to-day basis. They’re taking the extra step towards proving that connected communities are safer communities.

Mission: “Engaging individuals in recognizing and addressing crime, building stronger neighbourhoods, advocating more neighbour to neighbour communication and encouraging community ownership and responsibility for making changes will lead to less crime and a healthier community”.

Communities Against Bullying and Hazing Committee

Formerly “Communities Against Paddling” (CAP), this is now one of the CACP committees. They have added all forms of bullying, on and off the schoolyard, to their scope.

Mission: “To make our community aware of the practices and damaging effects of hazing and bullying. To coordinate the efforts of parents, school administration, RCMP, community sporting associations, business community and community support groups to stop the practice of this behaviour.”

Drug Action Committee

With a strong focus on methamphetamines this past year, the Drug Action Committee has been responsible for bringing in a number of law enforcement officers and other knowledgeable persons to give a variety of presentations to students, parents, professionals, and citizens.

Mission: “To provide a coordinated approach and a community-based response to the substance abuse issues in our Communities.”

Sexual Exploitation Awareness and Action Committee

Mission: “To mobilize and facilitate individuals and community in addressing prostitution through education, prevention, harm reduction, enforcement, and empowerment”

These committees are always looking for any interested persons to volunteer, as representatives of organizations or as concerned citizens. If you'd like to be a Crime Prevention volunteer, you can print off the volunteer application form below, fill it out, and send it back to us. If you have any questions about volunteering, please contact Crime Prevention at 830-5773. You’ll soon see how easy it is to do your share in helping to make Grande Prairie the Greatest Place To Be!

Sponsorship Opportunities

Many of our programs provide an excellent opportunity for local businesses to give back to their community. You can help support some of Crime Prevention's key initiatives by sponsoring one of the following programs:

Positive Ticket Initiative

Based on a similar program in Richmond, B.C., the Positive Ticket Initiative is in its second year of operation. It is designed to promote positive community interaction by youth in the Grande Prairie Area, such as volunteerism and spontaneous acts of goodwill. It also facilitates open and trusting communications between these youth and local RCMP and Enforcement Services personnel. RCMP and Enforcement Services members carry these "Positive Tickets" with them, using them to reward youth who are 'caught' doing something positive for the community. They also take this opportunity to engage the youth in conversation, with the aim of dispelling any negative preconceptions the youth may have about law enforcement officers. These Positive Tickets contain a number of generously donated free and discounted items from various local businesses around Grande Prairie.
