CELEBRATE SUMMER SOLSTICE  with a four-day festival of arts and culture in the north. Music, drama, visual art and literary activities are planned for all tastes and ages, throughout Grande Prairie from June 17th to 21st at the Iskoteo Arts Festival. The Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Arts Awards ceremony and gala event celebrates the brilliance of the arts with awards to three distinguished Alberta artists on June 20, 2009.

The City of Grande Prairie, Grande Prairie Regional College, the Prairie Art Gallery, Grande Prairie Public Library, the Grande Prairie Friendship Centre, Wordspinner and Art of the Peace are spearheading the organization of numerous arts and culture events.

Beginning with an auction at the Centre for Creative Arts and ending with a day in Muskoseepi Park celebrating National Aboriginal Day, Iskoteo is a festival of the arts for everyone.

 Iskoteo was a Cultural component of the 1995 Canada Winter Games. The Committee believed that it was time to revisit the spirit of the original festival. Iskoteo is a Cree word for Fire in the Sky. The 1995 Canada Games – Culture Division created a theme poem;

ISKOTEO

… fire in the sky

…spirit of the people

…power of the land
