What is an Area Redevelopment Plan (ARP)?
An ARP is a plan that guides future development and redevelopment in a neighbourhood. ARPs can address many topics including:
- building appearance criteria
- future land use
- public amenity improvements
The ARP Process
Developing an ARP is a public process with community members involved at every stage:
- numerous public meetings are held
- a steering committee is formed from volunteers from the community
- regular meetings are held with the steering committee
This ensures the ARP accurately follows the needs and wants of the community.
Rough drafts and revisions are created based on input from the meetings.
The draft ARP is then presented to City Council.
When the ARP is presented to council they can:
- adopt the bylaw, or
- deny the adoption of the bylaw and request additional changes.
The approximate length of time for the creation of the ARP is 12 months.
