The objectives of the GPDMA are to promote and encourage cultural exchange and understanding in the Grande Prairie and District and Peace Region.  We also function as a liaison office for the preservation of individual cultures in our area.  We provide contact information for ethnic performers, but also act as an umbrella group

to assist individual cultural groups.  A recent shift in focus is to reach out to mainstream Canadians to educate and raise cultural awareness about facts and issues surrounding immigration and visible minorities.  We are developing programs for use in schools and business to increase awareness of the usefulness of exchanging cultural knowledge and other benefits of multicultural policy and immigration to our area.  We collaborate with community organizations to enrich and preserve the Peace Regions increasingly diverse cultural heritage. Some projects of the GPDMA include cross cultural workshops, a cultural expressions contest in schools, presentations in elementary and junior high schools (utilizing cultural ambassadors – local immigrants and other visible minorities), a museum exhibit, ethnic performances of dancers and musicians, Friends of Latin dance club.  We also raise funds to continue support of acceptance of cultural diversity in our workplace and communities.
