The Canadian Red Cross helps those who need it most. Our mission is to improve the lives of vulnerable people by mobilizing the power of humanity in Canada and around the world. We provide a wide range of assistance to millions of people in Canada, as well as right here in Grande Prairie, through our national and local Disaster Services programs, our Injury Prevention programs - such as Red Cross Swim, First Aid courses, RespectED: Violence & Abuse Prevention program - and through community outreach programs.
We also help the world’s most vulnerable populations — victims of armed conflicts and communities destroyed by disasters — through our international programs.
Examples of Canadian Red Cross programs at work in Grande Prairie:
• Disaster Preparedness training courses are offered on an ongoing basis throughout northwestern Alberta.
• The Grande Prairie Red Cross Emergency Response Team consists of 33 highly trained responders. In 2004-2005, the team assisted 102 adults and children who were in need of basic necessities such as food, shelter or clothing after a disaster.
• The Grande Prairie Red Cross Youth Group inspires youth to get involved in their community by volunteering, and promoting Red Cross values and services at local events. The Youth Group organizes an annual Refugee Day Camp to help build awareness about international humanitarian issues.
• The Red Cross Medical Equipment Loan Service works with Home Care and local rehabilitation departments to loan basic medical equipment to those who need it.
• Kids’n Carseats is a unique program designed to make infant and toddler carseats available to families who are unable to purchase their own.
• Support your local Red Cross programs by making a financial donation or by becoming a volunteer!
