Located in Alberta’s Peace Country in one of Canada’s fastest growing urban communities, the City of Grande Prairie is home to more than 50,000 people and a vigorous, diverse economy.
The City currently has an opportunity for a Planner II within its Development Services Team. Responsibilities include processing applications for amendments to statutory planning documents, outline plan proposals and the Land Use Bylaw; preparation of reports for Committee and Council; undertaking special studies and projects, conducting public consultation programs, and assisting with the mentoring of junior members of the planning team.
The ideal candidate has a Planning degree, three to five years of relevant experience (or an equivalent combination of education and experience), and eligibility for membership with CIP. Additional attributes will include excellent written and oral communication skills; the ethics, tact and diplomatic skills to develop and maintain positive working relationships with developers, Council, the public, adjacent municipalities and other stakeholders. Experience in land use analysis, policy formulation, urban design and ecology, are also essential attributes. The Planner II has the ability to work independently as well as contribute to team efforts. Ability to use MS Office suite and familiarity with AutoCAD and GIS applications is also essential.
The annual salary for this position is in the range of $81,225 to $98,675 and will be based on skill and experience.
The successful candidate will be expected to provide a reliable vehicle for business use and will be compensated in accordance with the City’s vehicle reimbursement policy. Smoking restrictions are in effect.
