Title: Recreation Programmer
Description:

The City of Grande Prairie requires a permanent, full time Recreation Programmer to join our team of professionals in the Recreation and Culture Department.  The successful candidate will work in a challenging and stimulating work environment, serving a population of over 50,000. 

 

Reporting to the Community Recreation Coordinator, the Recreation Programmer will be directly responsible for the day to day planning, coordinating, supervising and scheduling of recreation activities based in two Community Gyms.  You must ensure a wide range of sport and recreation programs are provided to meet the needs of the community.  The Recreation Programmer will also be responsible for the implementation and evaluation of the Kidzone Summer Playground Program, including supervision of 10 temporary summer staff. 

 

Excellent organization, interpersonal and communication skills along with a strong focus on teamwork will be critical to your success in this dynamic and challenging role.  Developing and maintaining partnerships with other levels of government, community organizations and not for profit agencies form a large component of this position.  The ability to exercise good judgment and understand customer first service is a must, especially when dealing with community groups and citizens.      

 

A degree or diploma in Recreation Administration, Physical Education, or Fitness Leadership, coupled with 2 years of experience in program planning and supervision is required.  The successful candidate is expected to provide a reliable vehicle for business use and will be compensated in accordance with the City’s vehicle reimbursement policy.  Candidates must also possess a current Class 5 Driver’s License as well as current First Aid and CPR certificates.  A Criminal Records Check and Child Welfare Check are also required.   

 

Anticipate a lively, fast paced environment and a starting rate of $21.87/hour with a comprehensive benefits package, while working 35 hours per week.  Non standard working hours will be required, which will include some evenings and weekends.
