Community Policing Overview

Community Policing encourages a partnership between the community and the police force. The goal is to identify and resolve issues regarding crime and social needs.

This initiative is successful for many reasons. Policing is most effective when the community, citizens, and police work together to take responsibility for crime prevention, crime investigation, law enforcement, and maintaining order within the community. The community and police share resources and information to target key issues that are mutual priorities.

The unit values cooperation, mutual respect, community awareness, citizen and police participation to make Grande Prairie the safest place to be.

Community Action on Crime Prevention

Grande Prairie has an RCMP Officer in Community Policing who liaises with Crime Prevention to promote safe neighbourhoods.

School Liaison Officer

The School Liaison Officer is a resource for students and faculty by providing assistance and information on an individual or group basis. This program gives students an opportunity to get to know a police officer as a person, rather than just as an enforcer of laws. In addition, through interactions with parents, schools and the community, the School Liaison Officer strives to improve community/police relations while creating a better understanding of police as a positive authority figure.
