40 Developmental AssetsKids - September

The Developmental Assets framework consists of 40 opportunities, skills, relationships and values that promote young people’s healthy development.

The Search Institute® has been proving through research that the more assets a young person has, the less likely they will be to engage in high risk behaviours as they get older.

Positive youth development is an approach to intentionally create opportunities, supports and services for youth so that young people develop the skills they need to thrive and become successful adults.

Individuals and organizations all have different ways to build assets in the lives of children.  There are a number of categories that fall into either Internal or External Assets such as Boundaries & Expectations, Constructive Use of Time, Positive Values and Commitment to Learning.

Creating supportive, encouraging environments where assets can be built is one of the most important things we can do in the healthy development of young people.
