The “Women Of Influence” Awards Reception and Luncheon took place today, on International Women’s Day, recognizing the unique and outstanding achievements of women who are influencing positive social change in the community.
Three awards were presented: Young Woman of Influence, Trailblazing Woman of Influence and Distinguished Woman of Influence.
Jessica Beauchamp received the Young Woman of Influence Award for her strategic, person-centered and socially inclusive management of the Mountain Plains Community Services Society of the North.
Dianna Wright was honoured with the Trailblazing Woman of Influence Award for her advocacy and innovative community development work for equal rights for all individuals inclusive of all races, genders, ages and abilities.
Helen Rice was recognized as the Distinguished Woman of Influence Award for over 40 years of contribution to Grande Prairie on City Council as well as for representing the community provincially and federally through organizations such as the Alberta Urban Municipality Association and Canadian Human Rights Commission.
“We received over 25 nominations which is quite phenomenal for this being the first year of the awards. All of the nominations were extremely unique and we had representation from every industry from tech to finance to the arts and athletics. It truly showcased how strong and diverse the women are in Grande Prairie,” says Angela Sutherland, Community Social Development Manager.
“Thank you to everyone who submitted nominations, to our sponsors and to our community partners for making this event happen and congratulations to our award winners.”
A keynote speech was provided by Councillor Eunice Friesen and a Proclamation to recognize International Women’s Day in Grande Prairie was presented by Deputy Mayor Clyde Blackburn.
