Guidebooks are also available at various events throughout the Alberta Culture Days weekend, Sept 29 to Oct. 1, beginning with the Coffee Kick-off party on Friday, Sept 29 at 10:30 a.m. in the Alberta Provincial Building.

How to Win

The back page of the guidebook includes a passport and ballot for a special Alberta Culture Days and Canada150 weekend prize package.

“To enhance the festival as a Canada 150 event, we created a multi-facility passport to encourage people to visit various arts and cultural facilities and events held throughout the three day festival,” says Robin White, City of Grande Prairie Culture and Heritage. “Individuals who attend three of the designated passport locations during Alberta Culture Days can collect stamps and stickers on the passport for a chance to win a prize package valued at over $750.”

Passport locations include the Grande Prairie Public Library, Centre for Creative Arts, Grande Prairie Museum, Heritage Discovery Centre, and the Reverend Forbes Homestead.

Passport stamps are also available during major Culture Days events including the Coffee Kick Off at the Provincial Building, the Community Trade Fair at Revolution Place, and the Reel Shorts film screening at the Grande Prairie Live Theatre. Stamps are also available at a variety of events in the Montrose Cultural Centre and Centre.

Participants can also collect stamps from the same location if they return on a different day of the festival. “Take a tour of one of our three local museums, watch some local performances or demonstrations, then visit the Library,” says Robin. “There’s plenty of opportunities to earn your stamps. What’s even better is that almost everything in the guidebook is absolutely free.”

Once a passport is complete, simply fill-in the ballot information and enter at any participating location. Self-printed passport pages from digitally downloaded guides are also accepted. All ballots are collected into one draw box and a winner chosen and contacted by phone on Oct 3.

What is Alberta Culture Days?

Alberta Culture Days is a three-day festival featuring interactive activities, artisan demonstrations, live performances, markets and more aimed at engaging and encouraging Albertans to discover their inner artist, celebrate our provinces’ heritage, and appreciate our diverse, local cultures.

"Alberta Culture Days is our largest celebration of arts, heritage, culture and community. For the past 10 years, Albertans have come together to share what culture means to them through family-friendly, fun and inspiring events. I encourage everyone in the Grande Prairie region to join the party this weekend and experience the joy of Alberta Culture Days."
- Ricardo Miranda, Minister of Culture and Tourism

To celebrate Canada’s 150th Anniversary of Confederation, the City of Grande Prairie, Grande Prairie Public Library and the Centre for Creative Arts partnered together to identify both the Centre for Creative Arts and the Montrose Cultural Centre as an official event celebration sites. The partnership enable the three organizations the ability to coordinate a variety of new events in addition to the annual events for 2017. These new events include a Community Trade Fair at Revolution Place, country-dance night, pop-up market, live art demos and a textile program at the Montrose Cultural Centre, and the official opening ceremony of the Mamawe Concourse.
