New Parade Route for Canada Day 2018

The Canada Day parade is being temporarily re-routed for the 2018 celebrations.

To accommodate for construction on the Downtown Rehabilitation and Streetscapes Project, the parade is moving along 108 Avenue, starting at Hillside School and moving along to the Leisure Centre.

Here is all the information residents need to know in preparation for the day:

Parade Schedule

  • 1:00 p.m.- 2:30 p.m., Sunday, July 1, 2018

Parade Route

  • The parade begins at 94 Street and 108 Avenue and ends at 105 Street and 108 Avenue.

Loading/ Unloading Zones for Floats

  • The float staging area is located behind Hillside School along 94 Street from 101 Avenue to 107 Avenue
  • Buses will be picking up parade participants and taking them from the Leisure Centre to the parade site at 10:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.
  • The parade unloading zone will be at the Leisure Centre

Parking and Traffic

  • Hillside: Please do not park on the street. If this is not possible, please park on the south side of the avenues or the east side of the streets.
  • Leisure Centre area: Traffic congestion is anticipated in the area around 2:30 as the parade concludes. Please plan for minor delays and be patient if travelling during this time.
  • 108 Street: Please do not park on the street.
  • Barricading of the parade route normally commences a half an hour prior to the parade and is promptly removed after the parade concludes.
  • Grande Prairie Transit is announcing details on an accommodation strategy in the upcoming weeks.

We thank everyone for their co-operation in helping us organize the parade with as minimal disruption as possible. We appreciate your understanding and apologize for any inconvenience.

We hope to see you cheering on the parade on July 1, and encourage you to join us afterwards at Muskoseepi Park from 2:00 p.m.- 6:00 p.m. for more celebrations including entertainment, cake, children’s activities, community displays and food vendors.
