Manchurian Elm

Siberian elms do not possess the vase-shaped canopy that
makes American elms such attractive shade trees

Ulmus pumila L.

Zone 2

Description

Growth Rate: Moderate

Height: 15 m (50 ft)

Spread: 10 m (33 ft)

Life span: 60 years

Why Plant It?

  • This tree was planted as an alternative to American Elm because it is more resistant to Dutch Elm Disease.  It has since become undesirable as an ornamental due to poor crown shape and weedy attributes.
