Waste Reduction Week

Each year In October, every third week is dedicated to conserve natural resources and reduce waste. It is a national campaign that aims to help Canadian's adopt more environmentally friendly choices. Stay tuned for what we have planned for Waste Reduction Week in 2017! #ReduceGP

Community Mobility

The City of Grande Prairie's Environmental Stewardship department wants to know if residents are using active transportation methods, and if not - what would motivate them to try it.

City Scrub
April 22nd-April 30th 2018
This annual program started in the spring of 2005. Every year schools, businesses, residents and community groups volunteer 20 minutes of their time to pick up garbage in and around the city.

Corporate Sustainability Initiative (CSI) Grande Prairie 

This small group of volunteers are a dedicated cross functional team who champion sustainable initiatives in Energy Efficiency.

Recycling Bin

Find out how you can save money by conserving energy, and learn about the Energy Meter Program! Grande Prairie. They have been changing the culture of our organization and have reduced the environmental impact of the employees.


Get Active Walk and Flower Plant 
Come take a walk through Muskoseepi Park and help the Parks Operations staff and volunteers plant flowers.  

Litter Reduction
Learn more about litter reduction and the City Scrub. How can Flower Plantingyou help clean up Grande Prairie this spring? Cleanups can occur throughout the year and the Environment Department can provide you with supplies such as bags, gloves, safety vests, disposal options, etc.

We hold workshops throughout the fall season demonstrating how you can build and maintain your very own vermicompost bin. This is a great option for those who would like to keep a compost going year-round.
