Let's Play Fetch! The City of Grande Prairie has responded to citizen's requests for more off-leash dog parks by implementing three new neighbourhood off-leash areas for 2014.  These areas are based in the north half of the city to provide service equivalent to what the South Bear Creek dog park provides in the south half of the city.

Neighbourhood Based Off-Leash Dog Area

These are designated areas in a corridor / underutilised green space that a resident from that neighbourhood can take their dog for a walk (from their home) on leash, enter the designated / signed walking corridor and allow their pet to be off leash. Residents are then able to leash up their pet and continue on a walk back home. These areas will have litter receptacles and dog waste bag dispensers installed by the fall of 2014.

Dog Park

The City of Grande Prairie currently has one fully fenced dog park, located in South Bear Creek Park.  This facility allows residents to transport their dog by vehicle or on-leash to the park, then allow them free rein within the fenced area.  Benches, dog waste bag dispensers and trash receptacles are provided.

Off Leash Area Guidelines for Use

Dog owners must adhere to all City of Grande Prairie Animals and Responsible Pet Ownership Bylaws when using off-leash areas including:

  • All dogs shall have a valid licence to use these areas
  • Dogs must be kept under control at all times
  • Dog waste must be removed immediately
    • Waste bag dispensers and litter receptacles are provided
