International Women’s Day Being Celebrated in Grande Prairie

International Women’s Day is being celebrated in Grande Prairie this year with the “Women Of Influence” Awards Reception and Luncheon on March 8 recognizing the achievements of local women.

International Women’s Day (IWD) is an event recognized world-wide to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women and to advocate for the continued advancements of equal rights.

Women of Influence Awards 2018- Tickets

The “Women Of Influence” Awards aim to honour and celebrate the contributions and achievements of women who are making positive social change locally. It ties into the 2018 International Women’s Day theme which is “Press for Progress,” a call-to-action for communities to take shared responsibility for promoting equality and diversity.

“These awards are about recognizing the many contributions that women in our community make and how Grande Prairie is shaped by having such a strong and diverse population of women,” says Angela Sutherland, Manager of Community Social Development.

About the Event

Three awards are being presented: Young Woman of Influence, Trailblazing Woman of Influence and Distinguished Woman of Influence.

A keynote speech is being delivered by Councillor Eunice Friesen.

The event takes place from 11:30 a.m.- 1:30 p.m. at Teresa Sargent Hall. Tickets are available for $30 at the Community Social Development office located at 10030 102 Ave.
