Community Funding

Arts Development Festival Funding

The City accepts applications for festival funding, based on specific criteria, for groups and/or individuals wishing to apply for funds.

Arts Development Individual Project Funding

This funding is designed to support and encourage the development of local artists and groups involved in the arts.

Arts Development Major Project Funding

This funding is designed to support and encourage the development of local artists and groups involved in the arts.

Arts Development Scholarships

This funding is designed to support programs/projects which foster and promote the enjoyment of visual, literary and performing arts by local artists and groups that contribute to the cultural fabric of the community (e.g. exhibitions, displays, preservation of art)

Beautification Grant

The Beautification Grant provides to community groups and organizations who are making improvements to the community. These improvements can be for example, additions of banners to a neighbourhood, creation of a garden or improvements to an existing park.

Community Group Grant Application - 2016

The City provides financial support to various community groups or agencies who provide programs and services that benefit the City of Grande Prairie and its residents.

Large Scale Tourism Events Funding

The City is please to offer funding to festivals and sporting events that have a tourism draw of 40 km or greater, resulting in at least 35% of attendance by visitors to our community.   

Neighbourhood Enhancement Matching Grant

The Neighbourhood Enhancement Matching Grant provides opportunities for Neighbourhood Associations to start innovative and creative community projects to improve their neighbourhoods.

Parks Improvement Funding Program

The Parks Improvement Funding Program has funds available to qualifying organizations looking to improve or enhance an existing neighbourhood park.

SafeGrowth Matching Grant

The SafeGrowth Matching Grant provides opportunities for Businesses, Neighbourhood Associations and Not For Profit Groups to make their site safer by installing appropriate measures by utilizing SafeGrowth principles.

2010 Arctic Winter Games Legacy Fund

The 2010 Arctic Winter Games Legacy Fund offers funding to bring new and exciting recreation, sporting and cultural events for youth to Grande Prairie and region. Funding is rewarded to new events (1st year) or a sporting or cultural event that does not occur each year.

Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage - Federal Grant

This federal grant program offers funding through three separate components:
  1. Local Festivals: Provides funding to local groups for recurring festivals that present the work of local artists, artisans and heritage performers.
  2. Community Anniversaries: Provides funding to local groups for non–recurring local events, with or without a minor capital project. Eligible events and capital projects are those that commemorate the 100th anniversary or greater (in increments of 25 years) of a significant local historical event or personality.
  3. Legacy Fund: provides funding for community-initiated capital projects that restore, renovate or transform an existing building or exterior space (such as a statue, community hall, monument, garden or work of art) intended for community use. Eligible capital projects are those that commemorate the 100th anniversary or greater (in increments of 25 years), of a significant local historical event or personality.

Community Social Development Special Projects Funding

One of the goals of the Community Social Development (CSD) department is to build community capacity. The Department offers consultative, administrative and funding support to volunteer groups and agencies who endeavour to meet the social needs in the community.

Accordingly, the CSD offers grants to non-profit groups for short-term, preventive and/or community enrichment projects up to a maximum of $20,000.00.

Athletic Funding

Pursuit of Excellence Athlete Development Funding Application

Pursuit of Excellence Athlete Development funding is provided to assist in the training and development of individual athletes who are pursuing excellence in their chosen sport.

Pursuit of Excellence Clinic Hosting Funding

Pursuit of excellence funding for clinic hosting encourages training opportunities at the local level. This allows a greater number of Coaches/Officials/Volunteers to benefit from the training.

Pursuit of Excellence Coach Development Funding

Coaching education is the number one priority with Pursuit of Excellence. Funding is available to assist coaches, referees, officials, and other volunteers to attend training opportunities to further their expertise in their chosen sport.

Pursuit of Excellence International Scholarship Fund Application

This Scholarship supports local high performance athletes who have demonstrated the ability to compete at the international level. Two $2500.00 scholarships are given out annually.

Pursuit of Excellence Scholarship Fund Application

Pursuit of Excellence awards up to four $1000.00 scholarships annually to individual athletes who are pursuing excellence in their sport.

Pursuit of Excellence Statement of Accountability

Recipients of Pursuit of Excellence (POE) funding must account for how POE funding was used.

Pursuit of Excellence Travel Funding for Coaches and Athletes

Pursuit of Excellence provides travel assistance to Athletes, Coaches and even whole teams to attend National and International events.

Development Funding 

The Urban Residential Development Grant

The Urban Residential Development Grant is a per dwelling financial incentive to encourage the addition of residential units in the downtown area.

The Façade Improvement Grant

The Façade Improvement Grant is a cost matching grant to encourage business owners in the downtown area to invest in enhancing the appearance and impact of their building’s frontage

The Patio Grant

The Patio Grant is a cost matching grant to encourage business owners in the downtown area to invest in the addition of an outdoor patio.

Retroactive Façade Grant

An owner of a building within the Downtown Incentives Program Boundary may apply for funding under the Façade Improvement Grant retroactively for improvements where the building permit was issued between January 1, 2015 and the deadline of the 2016 Spring intake period.
