Litter Reduction

Our litter reduction program focuses on enhanced municipal services, community engagement, public education and enforcement. 


Litter Reduction Plan

The Environmental Sustainability Department in conjunction with the Take Part Take Pride committee has created a plan to reduce the amount of litter in the community. The Plan will consist of:

  • Neighbourhood cleanup kits
  • Big bin events
  • An education campaign
  • Advocating for an increase in the provincial littering fine

City Scrub

The annual program started in the spring of 2005.

Every year schools, businesses, residents and community groups volunteer 20 minutes of their time to pick up garbage in and around the city.

How Many People Participate in City Scrub?

From 2005 - 2012 the City recorded the number of participants by having people email or call in the number of volunteers who participated in the clean-up.

Rotary Green-a-thon

City Scrub coincides with the annual Rotary Green-a-thon event, the year's green-a-thon is planned for Saturday, May 4, 2013. This event sees the City's four Rotary Clubs and Grade 4-6 students clean up litter in the community.

Organize your own litter pick-up

  1. Challenge your neighbours, family, friends, co-workers, or classmates to join you in a cleanup.
  2. Contact us for supplies, email environment@cityofgp.com or call 780-513-5265. A week's notices is appreciated.
  3. Pick up litter.
