Celebrating Canada's 150th Anniversary Art Contest Theme

Young artists can help mark Canada’s 150th Anniversary as part of Municipal Government Day. Artists are asked to use their imagination to illustrate their feelings of our country.

The deadline is Friday, June 16.Canada150

Winners will be contacted and awards presented at City Council June 26.

Contest Categories

Grade 3 and under
Grades 4 to 9
Grades 10 to 12

Prizes

Overall winner will receive the grand prize of an Apple iPad!

Winners from each category will receive a NEW bicycle.

Secondary prizes include Eastlink Centre passes.

Submission Details

Up to Grade 3


Students can match the theme by entering original drawings in pencil crayon, wax crayon or markers or paintings in watercolour, acrylic, tempera or oils. 

Grades 4-9*


Students enter 10-slide PowerPoints in this category. The slides can include original photographs taken in Grande Prairie and/or original artwork created by the contestant. The submissions may include words, narration, animation and transitions to enhance the presentation. Original music is encouraged. However, students are responsible for any copyright issues.

*Alternatively, a drawing, painting in any medium, or a sculpture/3-D model depicting the theme.

Grades 10-12*


Students create 20-slide PowerPoints or three-minute movies in this category. The slides/footage can include original imagery taken in Grande Prairie and/or original artwork created by the contestant. The submission may include words, narration, animation and transitions to enhance the presentation. Original music is encouraged. However, students are responsible for any copyright issues. 

*Alternatively, a drawing, painting in any medium, or a sculpture/3-D model depicting the theme.

*Selected submissions from the two digital categories will be uploaded to the City of Grande Prairie You Tube channel.

Submissions will be retained for 30 days following the contest. Entries will be returned to artists at their request.

The City of Grande Prairie will make every effort to ensure art work is kept intact. 

Submissions with the student’s name, parent/guardian’s name, contact phone number and email, can be dropped off at City Hall, attention: Youth Art Contest.
