Grande Prairie's Living Wage

The Grande Prairie Living Wage was calculated as a resource for community partners and for local interest.

What is a Living Wage?

Living wage definitions all convey similar meaning despite different authors and organizations. Living wage calculations include an hourly wage that allows employees and their families to earn enough to meet their basic needs.

  • A rate of pay high enough that allows families to afford a decent and dignified life
  • An hourly wage that allow employees and their families to meet their basic needs
  • The amount of income an individual or family requires to meet their basic needs, to maintain a safe, decent standard of living in their communities and to save for future needs and goals

This is different than a minimum wage. Minimum wage is the lowest hourly rate of pay that an employer is legally permitted to pay employees.
