What is graffiti?

Graffiti is an act of vandalism by taggers who paint or mark on public or private property without the owner’s consent. Graffiti is a serious crime that impact all members of the community. The difference between graffiti and art is permission. Without the owner’s consent, it is a criminal offense that can lead to charges.

How does graffiti affect our community?

Graffiti affects everyone. If ignored, graffiti can:

  • Lead to increased graffiti and crime 
  • Create loss of business income and tourism
  • Result in costly cleanup
  • Reduce property values
  • Decrease feelings of safety in neighbourhoods
  • Create a negative image for the community

Record It

Take a picture of the graffiti vandalism as soon as it is noticed.Graffiti

Report It

Email a report and include the location, address and pictures of the tag along with the date and time of the report and your contact information.

When reporting an incident of graffiti, please provide as much information as possible regarding the location. City staff will use the information reported to them to contact the property owner for the graffiti to be removed. This data is also reviewed to identify any trends in the community.

All tags on City equipment, including playground equipment, garbage and recycling bins, benches, fences, etc. should be reported directly to the Parks Department via email.  This report should also include the location, address and pictures of the graffiti, the date and time of the report and your contact information.

Incidents of hate crime or gang graffiti should be reported to the RCMP at 780-830-5700

Stop GraffitiProperties with graffiti, broken fences, overgrown yards, and poor lighting suggest neglect and are prime targets for graffiti vandals. Keeping your property clean and maintained has a positive effect on the community and will deter graffiti.
