Special Event Permits are required for events held in the City of Grande Prairie:

  • Parades / special events held on major roadways 
  • Parades / special events held on all other roadways
  • Special events held on all other City property 
  • Special events held Public/Private land (Gatherings of greater than 25 people require permits for events in the parks)

Event Categories may include, but are not limited to:

  • Festivals
  • Walk/Run Events
  • Parades
  • Rally/Protest
  • Promotional/Commercial Events

Application Requirements

Rental Contract

If your proposed event location includes a City of Grande Prairie rental venue, a booking contract or use permit must accompany your application. Click on one of the popular locations below for more information:

Building Permits

Tents or canopies larger than 108 square feet require a Commercial Building Permit from Inspection Services. Each tent requires a permit and copies must accompany the Special Event Application. Questions and completed building permit applications can be directed to

A minimum of $2 million liability insurance with the City of Grande Prairie named as additional insured is required for all Special Events held on City owned property and proof of insurance must accompany Special Event Permit Application.
