The fund is designed to:

  • Support and encourage the development of local artists and groups involved in the arts.
  • Support programs/projects which foster and promote the enjoyment of visual, literary and performing arts by local artists and groups that contribute to the cultural fabric of the community (e.g. exhibitions, displays, preservation of art)
  • Provide scholarships to developing artists to assist in taking them to the next level of development, expression or performance
  • Consider one time only, unique opportunities for capital development locally.

Apply for the Arts Development Major Project Funding

An application form has been developed in order to clarify the process and to help ensure that all applications are complete in accordance with established criteria.

Application Deadline

The first business day after January 1st of each year. Applications must be received on or before the application deadline or they cannot be considered. Committee sits approximately 1 month after the deadline.

NOTE: Major Project funding can only be received by a group or individual every other year.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be based in the Community or immediate area.
  • Demonstrated a level of achievement in their discipline.
  • Demonstrate how will attain the next level of artistic development or
  • Provide a statement of expected results
  • Demonstrate how the applicant will come up with the remainder of the funding
  • A current resume
  • One application per project

Application Requirements:

  • Name, address, daytime phone number, e-mail address
  • Name of the project
  • Budget listing expenses and revenues
  • Description of what you hope to accomplish
  • Where it will take place.
  • Letters from at least two references who can demonstrate artistic ability including name, address, postal code, telephone # and fax.
  • Description of how this project will take you to the next level of development and how this project will contribute to the culture betterment of the community
  • Listing of other sources of funding
  • Partners in the project
  • Description of the artist or group’s objectives
  • An example of the artist or group’s work (excerpt of writing, sound recording, slides, image, portfolio)

Evaluation Criteria

  • Merit (how the funding will benefit the artist or group)
  • Impact of the project for artist or group and community
  • Reasonableness of the budget; financial need
  • Ability of the artist or group to complete proposed project

Reporting Requirements:

  • Statement of Accountability report (25KB PDF) is due within 60 (sixty) days of the completion of the project. Unexpended funds must be returned to the Fund for redistribution
  • A financial report showing overall actual expenditures and disposition of the grant
  • A description of the outcome of the program and an evaluation of the success of the program in relation to its original objectives
  • Wherever possible, recipients are requested to acknowledge funding received from the City of Grande Prairie Arts Development fund in related advertising or promotional materials.
