This engaging program introduces students to rocks and minerals. Discover who the first “rock star” was,who was in “The Band” and how these rock stars rolled! In addition to an exploratory tour of the Stones & Bones exhibit, students will get to analyze Peace Region rock and mineral formations, conduct tests to discover the unique characteristics of mineral specimens, and participate in a mock fossil dig. Students will also have the opportunity to create unique works of sedimentary salt art to take home with them.

Activities:

  • Analyzing and categorizing rock and mineral specimens based on their characteristics.
  • Practicing mineral testing using a series of techniques to identify different specimens.
  • Learning the difference between fossils and rocks through a mock fossil dig.
  • Creating sand art to understand the formation of sedimentary layers.
