Grande Prairie Help End Auto Theft (GP HEAT)

GP HEAT Launch
The City of Grande Prairie Crime Prevention Team, Enforcement Services, RCMP, and volunteers have teamed up to launch Grande Prairie Help End Auto Theft (GP HEAT). This program was launched on December 2, 2016 and continues with blitzes throughout the year.  The HEAT team goes out into retail and residential areas issuing crime prevention notices to vehicles. These notices grade each vehicle if they are an easy target or a hard target for potential thieves.

The goal of this is prevention through education where the public will be educated on how they can better protect themselves and their valuables from theft of and from their vehicles.

Here are some auto theft protection tips:

• Ensure your vehicle is locked and windows are closed
• Never leave your keys in your vehicle
• Remove valuables from vehicle or move from plain sight
(phones, tablets, laptops, GPS, gifts, currency, wallet, purse etc.)
• Park in well-lit, high visibility areas
• If you have a garage, use it
• Report suspicious behaviour to police

A thief can steal your car in seconds.
An unlocked car or an open window an easy target.
Protecting your vehicle and property is as easy as locking and securing your vehicle
