Grande Prairie Help End Auto Theft (GP HEAT) Campaign

The City of Grande Prairie Crime Prevention Team, Enforcement Services, RCMP, and volunteers have teamed up to launch Grande Prairie Help End Auto Theft (GP HEAT).
The goal of this campaign is prevention through education. This campaign will educate the public on how they can better protect themselves and their valuables from theft of and from their vehicles.
 GP HEAT Launch
The launch for this campaign occurred at the Prairie Mall at 2:00 pm. The team was out on Friday December 2nd from 2 to 6 pm and then again Saturday December 3rd from 12 noon to 4 pm.

The HEAT team was out in retail and residential areas issuing crime prevention notices to vehicles. These notices graded each vehicle if they are an easy target or a hard target for potential thieves.

Here are some auto theft protection tips:

• Ensure your vehicle is locked and windows are closed
• Never leave your keys in your vehicle
• Remove valuables from vehicle or move from plain sight
(phones, tablets, laptops, GPS, gifts, currency, wallet, purse etc.)
• Park in well-lit, high visibility areas
• If you have a garage, use it
• Report suspicious behaviour to police

A thief can steal your car in seconds.
An unlocked car or an open window an easy target.
Protecting your vehicle and property is as easy as locking and securing your vehicle
