Verm hands

Did you know that the Environmental Stewardship department does vermicomposting? We keep worms bins here at the City Service Centre. Throughout the fall there are vermicomposting workshops that are available for the public to attend. You will get the information needed along with all of the supplies to create your very own bin to take home. Events will be posted on our webpage and our Facebook page.

Worm Facts

  • Worms castings make great fertilizer
  • Vermicomposting can be done year round and is kept primarily inside
  • Worms love: Fruits and vegetables, leaves/plants, coffee grounds, egg shells and even tea bags
  • Once you have the worms and bin established is will virtually cost you nothing to keep it going
  • Anyone can have a bin
  • The bins are nearly odourless, smelling earthy or like soil

City of Grande Prairie Worm Facts:

  • We have bins in the Eastlink Centre, Community Social Development and the Service Centre
  • Workshops to create bins are done in the fall
  • In 2016 twenty five bins were made through schools and the community
