About the "Women of Influence" Awards

The City of Grande Prairie is seeking to recognize local women who have made a positive social difference in the community. The “Women of Influence” Awards are launching in conjunction with International Women’s Day 2018 to celebrate women in Grande Prairie who have demonstrated innovative and inspiring approaches to leadership, volunteerism or community involvement.

Award Categories

Three nomination categories are available:

  • Young Woman of Influence (under 30 years old)
  • Trailblazing Woman of Influence (30-49 years old)
  • Distinguished Woman of Influence (50+ years old)

Submissions are being accepted until Friday, January 26, 2018.

Completed submissions can be e-mailed to Community Social Development at csd@cityofgp.com or dropped off in-person or mailed to the Community Foundations of Northwestern Alberta’s office at  Centre 2000 #200, 11330 - 106 Street.

Award Reception and Luncheon

Our awards reception and luncheon takes place on International Women’s Day 2018.

Date: Thursday, March 8, 2018

Time: 11:30 a.m.– 1:30 p.m.

Location: Teresa Sargeant Hall

Cost: $30

Successful nominees will be notified by Friday, February 9 and receive two complimentary tickets to the event.  General admission tickets can be purchased at the Community Social Development office.

What are the “Women of Influence” Awards?

Grande Prairie is a vibrant, innovational, resilient community due in large part to the strength and diversity of the  women who call it home. The Women of Influence Awards are designed to recognize and commemorate these women. We are looking to honour women who have demonstrated inclusive, innovative and inspiring approaches to leadership, volunteerism or community involvement that has made a positive social change  in Grande Prairie.

The Women of Influence Awards are taking place as part of International Women’s Day  2018. This year’s theme is “Press for Progress,” a call-to-action for communities to take shared responsibility for promoting equality and diversity.

Who can be nominated?

Eligible nominees must:

  • Live or work within the Grande Prairie region
  • Be 18 years of age or older at the date of nomination, with the exception of nominees in the Young Woman of Influence category
  • Consent to the nomination and publication of their name, photo and information
  • Be willing to provide a 1-3 minute speech at the reception

Who can nominate?

Nominations can be received by anyone including friends, family and coworkers, etc. However, nominees cannot nominate themselves.

What are the nomination requirements? 

  • Eligible nominees must:
    • Live or work within the Grande Prairie region
    • Be 18 years of age or older at the date of nomination, with the exception of nominees in the Young Woman of Influence category
    • Consent to the nomination and publication of their name, photo and information
    • Be willing to provide a 1-3 minute speech at the reception
  • Nomination Criteria:
    • Nominations can be received by anyone including friends, family and coworkers, etc. Nominees cannot nominate themselves. Posthumous nominations will not be accepted.
    • Nominations must satisfy each of the criteria and requirements for their award category.
    • Significance of contributions must be demonstrated through clear, specific and relevant examples.
    • Submissions must be signed by both the nominator and nominee.
  • The following documents must be submitted as part of the nomination process:
    • Completed Nomination Form 
    • 1 page profile with specific examples that answer the following questions:
      • What are the nominee’s unique and outstanding achievements?
      • How has the nominee influenced positive social change in the community?
      • Demonstrate the impact of the nominee's influence on the community.
    • 2 one-page letters of support for the nominee
    • A resume / CV of the nominee including the following where applicable: education, career history, organizational involvement, volunteer activities, awards and accomplishments
    • One high-resolution image  of the nominee

Where can nomination packages be submitted?

Is the awards reception and luncheon private? 

No. The event is open to the whole community. Award recipients will receive two complimentary tickets.

Tickets for the Awards Reception and Luncheon can be purchased for $30 at the Community Social Development office (10030 102 Avenue). Award recipients will be notified on February 9, 2018 and receive two complimentary tickets.

What is International Women’s Day?

International Women’s Day is an event recognized world-wide to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women and advocate for the  continued advancements of equal rights.
