The City of Grande Prairie Youth Council (GPYC) is an advisory committee to City Council made up of youth between the ages of 13-24. GPYC contributes to building a society of active and engaged citizens by creating opportunities to connect youth with the civic order of governance, local organizations and each other.

Established in 2010,  GPYC meets regularly to make decisions about issues affecting local young people and to influence Council's policies and decisions towards young people.

GPYC receives funding from the municipal and provincial governments towards providing young people in the area with the opportunity to engage in various youth events, skill-building activities and forums.

As the voice of young people in the area, GPYC is committed to opinions being heard and having key issues addressed. In the past, former Youth Councillors addressed issues such as:
LGBTQ+ Education
Sexual health education
Exploring and promoting youth friendly spaces in the community
Apathy is boring: Engaging youth to vote
The City of Grande Prairie’s Transit Master Plan
Truth and Reconciliation of the Indigenous people of Canada
