  • What is the SUPERPASS?
    • The SUPERPASS is a new, electronic smart card that can be loaded and reloaded to pay your transit fare. It is designed to make your transit commute easier and more convenient!

  • Why is the SUPERPASS being rolled out?
    • We’re introducing the SUPERPASS as a way to modernize and improve the customer experience on Grande Prairie Transit. The new electronic fare collection system and the SUPERPASS are designed to help make this possible as we phase out paper passes. It is important to us to constantly seek innovation, remain competitive in the industry and help serve you better.

  • How does the SUPERPASS work?
    • When you board a Grande Prairie Transit bus, simply tap your SUPERPASS against the card reader located on the electronic fare-box next to the driver. Hold it until it approves your pass and find your seat!
    • If you use a SUPERPASS, no paper transfer is required. The SUPERPASS automatically creates a 90-minute countdown in its program so if you swipe it again within this timeframe it won’t deduct a fare.
    • If you pay with cash (coin only), kindly ask the bus driver for a transfer.
    • Transfers are valid for 90 minutes after the transfer is issued.

  • Who needs a SUPERPASS?
    • Grande Prairie Transit riders are not required to get a SUPERPASS and may continue to pay bus fare with cash (coin only).
    • However, effective fall 2018, Grande Prairie Transit will be transitioning away from selling paper passes and tickets.
    • We recommend all frequent Grande Prairie Transit users purchase a SUPERPASS.

  • What types of SUPERPASS products are available?
    • Monthly passes and rides can both be loaded to the SUPERPASS.
    • Monthly passes offer unlimited travel for 31 consecutive days from the date of purchase.
    • Rides can be bought in groups of 10.
    • The SUPERPASS can be reloaded at any time, not just at the end of the month. The residual value of your current month’s SUPERPASS will not be lost if you renew early. Reloading at any time prior to the expiry of your Monthly SUPERPASS will take effect ONLY once your current month has expired, and will be good for another 31 days after that.

  • How do I get a SUPERPASS?
    • Purchase your pre-loaded SUPERPASS with either a monthly pass or 10 rides anywhere that currently sells Grande Prairie Transit passes and tickets.

  • How do I reload a SUPERPASS?
    • Purchasing and re-loading a new monthly pass or 10 rides onto your SUPERPASS can be done easily online or in-person.
    • To do it online visit superpass.cityofgp.com and follow the simple, step-by-step instructions. A credit card is required.
    • To do it instantly in-person, visit any participating City of Grande Prairie facility (City Hall, City Service Centre, Eastlink Centre, the Community Social Development office, and Muskoseepi Park). You will have to bring your SUPERPASS with you to complete the transaction. Your card will be updated immediately.
    • Re-loading your SUPERPASS on-line can take up to 24-48 hours to become active.
    • Please note, third party vendors such as Shoppers Drug Mart and Co-op are unable to re-load a SUPERPASS. Only pre-loaded SUPERPASSES are available at these locations.
  •  Does the SUPERPASS cost more?
    •  Fare rates will remain the same
    •  Pass Packs and packs of 20 tickets will no longer be offered.
    •  Beginning January 1, 2019, a $3.00 admin fee will be charged for each SUPERPASS
  • What does it mean to register a SUPERPASS?
    • With the new SUPERPASS you are now able to register it online and create an account with GP Transit.
    • Creating this account and registering your SUPERPASS gives you access to view your remaining balance and reload it online.

    • Note that there are no refunds for lost cards and that only those cards which are registered will have the ability to have your unused value transferred to a new card.
  • What data is being collected?
    • The SUPERPASS program allows Grande Prairie Transit to vastly improve our methods of data collection. For the first time ever, we will be able to access data such as fare category, travel times, routes used and stop characteristics. This will provide exceptional value as we seek to improve our service, design new routes and analyze system performance.
    • The SUPERPASS does not collect any personal identification or contact information.
    • Grande Prairie Transit will never track an individual’s SUPERPASS use history or share individualized data with third parties. Only aggregate data will be analyzed for system planning.
