Neighbour Day Set for September 16
Posted Date: 8/17/2017
Neighbourhood Day

In celebration of neighbours and the community, Grande Prairie’s first Neighbour Day will take place on Saturday, September 16, 2017. This annual event aims to showcase the importance of community and build better relationships between neighbours.

“The idea of Neighbour Day is to meet your neighbours, make new friends and have fun in your community,” says Patricia Millward, Neighbourhood Association Coordinator. “Creating a connected community fosters a sense of belonging and well-being. It’s a great way to meet and celebrate with the people we live next door to.”

Neighbourhood Celebrations

There are many ways residents can connect with their neighbours and enjoy the vibrancy of their community. Here are just a few suggestions;

• host a block party or pot luck.
• have a neighbourhood picnic at a local park.
• host afternoon tea in your backyard.
• hold a parade of lawn parties.
• hold a sidewalk chalk drawing challenge or set up a lemonade stand.
• help your neighbour with their fall cleaning.
• go out and say hello to a neighbour you haven’t met yet.

To kick off the first Neighbour Day, Mayor Bill Given will read a proclamation at the Montrose Cultural Centre at 9 a.m. on Saturday, September 16. Residents nominated for the Good Neighbour Awards will also be recognized for their service and good deeds to the community.

Good Neighbour Awards

The City encourages residents to acknowledge those outstanding citizens who provide assistance and service to their community. Nominations for the Good Neighbour Awards can be sent to by Friday, September 8.
