Grande Prairie Celebrates Alberta Culture Days

Celebrate Canada's 150th Anniversary of Confederation and the 10 Anniversary of Alberta Culture Days with citywide events this Alberta Culture Days, Sept 29 to Oct 1. ABCD2017

Multiple Locations, Same Festival

Official host sites for Alberta Culture Days are the Centre for Creative Arts and the Montrose Cultural Centre, home to the Art Gallery of Grande Prairie and Grande Prairie Public Library. Additional sites include the Alberta Provincial Building, Grande Prairie Live Theatre, Grant Berg Gallery, Mamawe Concourse, Grande Prairie Museum, Heritage Discovery Centre (Centre 2000), Revolution Place, Reverend Forbes Homestead and the Eastlink Centre.

"New for 2017 is a Community Trade Fair, at Revolution Place, to provide valuable information on services and resources available to our residents," says Robin White, Marketing and Development Coordinator. "A country dance lesson and dance event has also been added by the Peace Country Western Dance Club for Saturday evening and a pop-up market by the Handmade Marketplace on Sunday afternoon, both at the Montrose Cultural Centre."

Continuing this year is the Wearable Arts Show (Saturday, Sept 30) at the Centre for Creative Arts, the Coffee Kick Off party at the Alberta Provincial Building (Friday, Sept 29 at 10 a.m.) and the Culture Days Tradeshow in Teresa Sargent Hall (Saturday, Sept 30).

In addition to events, the festival features various artist displays, special exhibits and scavenger hunts held throughout the festival weekend at the various facilities. Event listings and schedules are found at www.facebook.com/ABCultureDaysGP

What is Alberta Culture Days?

Alberta Culture Days is a three-day festival featuring interactive activities, artisan demonstrations, live performances, markets and more aimed at engaging and encouraging Albertans to discover their inner artist, celebrate our provinces' heritage, and appreciate our diverse, local cultures.

The annual Alberta Culture Days Grande Prairie guidebook come out later this month. These commemorative guides serve as a weekend schedule, exhibit listing, contest entry form and bus pass.

Enter to Win

On the back cover of the Alberta Culture Days Grande Prairie guidebook is an event passport. Show this page at designed events and host sites to receive stamps.

Once holders collect three stamps, turn the passport ballot in at any of the participating locations to enter a prize draw worth over $350.

A list of locations to pick up the guidebooks and collect stamps will be posted on the Alberta Culture Days Grande Prairie Facebook page once the guides are distributed.

Free Transit

Visitors with the Alberta Culture Days guidebooks are eligible for free GP Transit rides from Friday, Sept 29 through Sunday, Oct 1. Riders can simply show the 2017 weekend guidebook to transit drivers when entering the bus, limited 1 rider per guidebook.
