Transit Awareness Day - GP Transit Hosts Free Rides All Day
Posted Date: 9/15/2017
Bus Grande Prairie Transit will host free rides, giveaways and snacks for riders all day in support of Transit AwarenessDay, Monday, September 18, 2017. This is the perfect opportunity for residents to experience the newest addition to the Transit fleet – the Vicinity bus, plus enjoy a range of fun activities and promotions.

Riders can take the bus free of charge on all routes and enjoy:

• Pizza onboard buses at select times and locations including Town Centre Mall
• Complimentary one-ride tickets distributed on some routes
• The opportunity to go into the draw to win one of three prizes

“Transit Awareness Day is a great way to recognize the importance of city transit services,” says Jason Henry, Transit Manager at the City of Grande Prairie, “even if you are not a regular rider, I encourage everyone to consider taking transit to see our new Vicinity buses in action, and enjoy some perks on the day.”

Regularly scheduled transit service will be in place.

Background

Transit Awareness Day promotes the use of public transit as an efficient and effective way to travel. Mayor Bill Given proclaimed Transit Awareness Day as the third Monday of September each year, on September 11, 2017.

GP Transit is currently undergoing an extensive Transit Master Plan, which will be submitted to City Council for adoption on Monday, September 18. The launch of the new Vicinity bus is the City’s first step towards a more efficient transit system.
