Youth Engagement Awards Ceremony and Open Mic May 1

The Grande Prairie Youth Council is hosting their annual Youth Engagement Awards Ceremony with an open mic on Tuesday, May 1. 

The event takes place at Teresa Sargent Hall in the Montrose Cultural Centre from 7:00 p.m.- 9:00 p.m. 

Four awards are being presented and a youth-centred open mic is taking place. 

Residents of all ages are invited to attend and all musical abilities are welcome to perform. 

Admission is free. 

The Grande Prairie Youth Engagement Awards (GP YEA!) are presented annually to businesses, schools and community agencies that illustrate the valuable role community plays in positive youth development in Grande Prairie. Yea 2018

2018 nominees include:

Employer of Choice (recognizing businesses or organizations that make an effort to employ youth or young adults as part of their staffing model)
o Booster Juice
o Canadian Tire
o Starbucks

Community Engagement Award (recognizes schools or community youth agencies that promotes and takes strides to develop a positive youth culture and embraces community connectedness)
o YMCA
o Dave Barr
o Young Life

Youth Friendly Business of Choice (recognizes a business, service or corporation that values youth as a client or patron)
o Grande Prairie Coffee Co. 
o Coles
o Bowling Stones

Youth Mentor of Choice (recognizes individuals dedicating to mentoring youth in the community)
o Ashley, HIV North
o Jared, St. Lawrence Centre
o Cara, City of Grande Prairie
