Transit Route #5 Pilot Service to Avondale and Northern Addictions Being Discontinued
Posted Date: 5/16/2018

Grande Prairie Transit is ending service on the portion of Route 5 serving Avondale and the Northern Addictions Centre on June 1, 2018.

This portion of Route 5 was established as a pilot project in March of 2017 to test demand for transit in this area. The decision to end service on the extension was based on two factors: very low ridership at the new stops and a significant reduction in on-time performance on Route 5 as a whole as a result of this extension.

The closure was approved by the Community Living Committee on April 24, 2018 and City Council on May 7, 2018.

All four of the pilot extension’s bus stops will be closed:

•           Stop 500 (Centre 2000)

•           Stop 500A (108 Avenue & DeWit Drive)

•           Stop 501 (112 Avenue & DeWit Drive)

•           Stop 501A (Northern Addictions Centre)

After the closure takes effect, the outbound Route 5 bus from Grande Prairie Regional College will turn left onto 108 Street from the Bypass and proceed directly to Royal Oaks.  The ‘Where’s My Ride’ bus tracker will be updated to reflect the route changes.
