Pothole Repairs on City Roads Continue
Posted Date: 5/23/2018
City of Grande Prairie transportation maintenance crews are now able to use hot-mix asphalt to repair potholes.

Hot-mix asphalt plants are open for the season, letting crews discontinue the use of the cold-patch method for the summer months. The cold-patch method allows temporary repairs to the road network. Although cold-patching potholes is effective in the short term, hot-patch asphalt provides a longer-lasting solution to potholes in Grande Prairie’s road network.

Our region’s repeated pattern of freeze-thaw weather cycles has a considerable effect on the number of potholes on Grande Prairie roads. This past winter proved to be especially tough on City roads. Since January 2018, over 3700 potholes have been filled within the Grande Prairie City limits. In contrast, approximately 6,300 potholes were filled in all of 2017.

Crews are actively filling potholes. Citizens are encouraged to report potholes online at or by calling the citizen contact centre at 780-538-0300.
