Free Rent Smart Certification Being Offered through City of Grande Prairie

On June 18 and 19, the City of Grande Prairie is hosting a Rent Smart Certification workshop for individuals to learn more on tenant rights and responsibilities and how to apply for housing.

The training is designed to help prepare potential tenants to apply for housing, give them the skills and knowledge to be great tenants and provide education on tenant rights and responsibilities. It builds knowledge, confidence and skills so people can make better decisions about rental housing.Rent Smart 2018

Workshop attendees will receive a Rent Smart Certificate that can act as a reference when applying for rental housing. It demonstrates to landlords that applicants care about being good tenants.

Rent Smart Certification is a provincially recognized housing readiness model. It covers the following topics:

•           Tenant rights and responsibilities

•           Landlord responsibilities and expectations

•           Tenancy, human rights and privacy laws

•           Being a good roommate and neighbour

•           Maintenance dos and don’ts

•           Fire and safety

•           Pest control

•           Communication skills

•           Community resources

The course takes place at Community Social Development (10030 102 Avenue) on June 18 and 19 from 9:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. with an hour lunchbreak. Lunch, beverages and snacks are provided. Attendance is required at both days to receive a certificate.
