Posted Date: 10/16/2018

108 Avenue East of 98 Street Closed to All Traffic, Results in Transit Route 1, 3 and St. Joes AM Detour

108 Avenue East of 98 Street will be closed to all traffic on Wednesday, October 17 and is expected to re-open by the evening of Thursday, October 18. The closure allows for CN to install new rail tracks and for the City to pave this location.

Northbound and Southbound Transit routes 1, 3 and St. Joes AM will be detoured onto 105 Avenue and onto 97 Street to accommodate the road closure. The detour results in the closure of transit Route 1 stop 108 (go to stop 110 at 108 Avenue and 96A Street), Route 3 & St. Joes AM stops 354 and 356 (go to stop 360 at the Grande Prairie Public Library). The detour is depicted in the map below.

Four intersections will see traffic signal improvements beginning Wednesday, October 17.

  • 89 Avenue and 116 Street – New traffic signals to accommodate increased traffic.
  • 84 Avenue and 116 Street – Upgrades to existing traffic signals to accommodate new development.
  • 116 Avenue and 100 Street – Maintenance and repair of existing traffic signals.

The upgrades, maintenance, and repairs are expected to result in short-term periodic lane closures. Work at the intersection of 98 Avenue and 100 Street may result in the intersection being a 4-way stop for a shot period of time.
All four intersections are expected to be complete by the end of November.
