Daily Snow Removal Updates - November 5-9, 2018

Friday, November 9, 2018

  • Sanding crews continue their regular operation of monitoring roads and implementing ice control on priority 1 and 2 routes. 
    • The sand/salt mixture is adjusted to match the potential for freezing rain/icy conditions. 
    • Sanding crews will be monitoring priority 1 and 2 routes and implementing ice control throughout the weekend.
  • Snow clearing crews expect to complete plowing on priority 2 roads today and will continue to pick up windrows on these areas. 
  • Some snow clearing crews have moved onto priority 3 roads today. 
  • In addition, the clearing of City-owned sidewalks and trails continues and residential snow removal is not initiated. 
  • Parking bans are still in effect on priority 1 and 2 routes. 

Thursday, November 8, 2018

  • Sanding crews are monitoring and implementing ice control on priority 1 and 2 routes. These crews have also been responding to citizen requests for ice control in residential areas. 
  • Plowing crews are clearing snow from priority 2 roads in the neighbourhoods of Westpointe, Pinnacle, O'Brien, Mission Heights, and Stone Ridge today.
  • Windrow pick-up is taking place on priority 2 routes. Windrow pick-up on priority 1 routes is complete. 
  • Crews are clearing City owned sidewalks during the hours of 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Residential snow clearing is not initiated and the parking ban on priority 1 and 2 routes is still in effect.

Wednesday, November 7, 2018

  • The parking ban on priority 1 and 2 routes is still in effect. 
  • Residential snow removal is not initiated. 
  • Snow removal crews continue to plow priority 2 routes into center windrows. 
  • Sanders are monitoring priority 1 and 2 routes and implementing ice control. 
  • Windrows on priority 1 and 2 routes are being picked up. 
  • Sidewalks and trails are being cleared.
  • Tomorrow, crews are expected to continue with clearing priority 2 routes in the neighbourhoods of: Westpointe, Pinnacle, O’Brien Lake, Mission Heights, and Stone Ridge.

Tuesday, November 6, 2018

  • All priority 1 routes have been snow plowed.
  • Parking ban on priority 1 and 2 routes is in effect.
  • Residential snow plowing rotation is not initiated. 

Snow removal crews are currently performing the following activities:

  • Sand and salt crews are monitoring road conditions and treating priority 1 and 2 routes.
  • Some crews are ensuring windrowed areas have clear sight-lines and the snow is stored in appropriate locations.
  • Most of the crews are currently plowing priority 2 routes. 
    • Crews attempt to clear priority 2 roads in the same schedule as the residential program, but depending on the amount of snow may move through an area quickly and move on to the next day.
    • Windrows will be stored in the center of priority two routes. Windrow pick-up is expected to begin tomorrow.
  • Sidewalks and trails owned by the City are also being cleared.

Monday, November 5, 2018

  • Crews began ice control measures on Friday November 2 and continued sanding and salting throughout the weekend.
  • Regular winter operations began on November 4, 2018. 
    • Regular operations include ice control (sanding and salting), snow plowing, and windrow removal on priority 1, 2, and 3 routes. 
  • Residential snow plowing is not initiated.
