City Council Highlights for November 19, 2018

Here are the highlights from the City Council meeting on November 19, 2018:

Delegations
Renee Charboneau presented information about a Veterans Memorial Garden in Grande Prairie. The Garden honours and remembers veterans who were killed in action and who returned home. The Garden will also educate our region on the sacrifices made during times of war. Council received this presentation for information.

Public Hearings – Bylaw C-1389 – Road Closure Bylaw
Council approved bylaw C-1389, a bylaw that will close the lane between two blocks of land south of 132 Avenue and east of 102 Street. The lane is not required for access to land or for future development.

Bill Adam Park Naming Nomination
A park in the neighbourhood of Mountview was named the Bill Adam Park. The Park is located at 112 Avenue and 93 Street. Bill Adam was a long time community volunteer and the park naming nomination was submitted by the Downtown Association.

Letter of Support of Daytime Shelter Service Needs
Council directed Mayor Given to write a letter in support of provincial funding for day shelter services in our community. Jared Gossen from the Saint Lawrence Centre attended a Community Living Committee meeting on Nov 6/18 to respond to questions and provide information.
